MacBook Pro getting hot?
I am wondering... I have these little 'stand offs' which in theory provide additional air circulation under the laptop - in turn keeping it cooler. It always feels warm to me - which got me wondering if the engineers assumed the notebook would be in full contact with a given surface thus utilizing it as an external heat sink.
How can we verify the theory with Mac?
Answer
Your MacBook Pro does have feet on the bottom, so the computer is not specifically designed to make contact across the entire bottom surface. Apple's notebooks do have fans to keep them cool and they run faster as the computer gets hotter.
If any Mac made in recent years was to get too hot, it would shut itself down to prevent damage. What seems hot to you and I is no where near hot enough to damage the components.
People wanted faster, faster, faster notebooks and the market responded. Unfortunately, running fast, dual-core chips in a laptop enclosure creates a fair amount of heat at today's processor speeds. That's EXACTLY why Apple doesn't call them 'laptops' ... they call them 'notebooks' ... probably to prevent themselves from being sued by people with burnt legs!
I don't think you would necessarily have to remove the after-market feet if you want to leave them there. Certainly more airflow is better.
