How come I can only use one computer at a time with cable Internet?

I recently got cable Internet and I plugged both of my computers into a hub and the hub into the cable modem. But I can only access the Internet on one a time. Why?

Answer

The reason is that the cable company restricts you to one or two IP addresses at most. What you need is a router. The router then gets assigned one IP address from the cable company and creates a network for you that will allow you to use as many computers as you see fit.
