Opening old ClarisWorks and AppleWorks documents

I have some stories that I wrote using both Clarisworks and Appleworks on an older MacIntosh computer and I need to print this stuff off or get it translated into an Apple Pages transcript. Is this possible?

Answer

Apple's Pages application (available in the Mac App Store) is capable of reading/translating/opening some of these documents. I believe it can open AppleWorks 6 documents, but not AppleWorks 5 or less nor can it open any ClarisWorks documents.

If you have a Mac that's still capable of running AppleWorks, consider upgrading it to version 6 then open all of your AppleWorks and ClarisWorks documents with it. As I recall, it will upgrade/update the documents to the AppleWorks 6 format. Once you've done that, you should be able to open those documents in Pages (or Numbers for spreadsheets).

It's also possible that there are document conversion services out there that still perform this service online via an upload. I'm having difficulty locating any at the moment, but a little time spent searching Google may yield a good result for you.
