Getting past a Mac's Master Password

I have an iBook G4 that I'm trying to do a clean install on. The original owner set a master password and can't remember it, thus when I did the first clean install, his name still showed up as the owner.

Help??? How do I get around that?

Answer

An 'erase & install' should do the trick unless you are referring to a Firmware password in which case removing or adding RAM (so that the amount changes) is the only way around it.

There are a few steps involved. Have a look at the following Apple Knowledge-base article for the procedure:

Keep in mind that an erase and install will wipe out all of the data on the computer.

You might also be able to reset the Master password by booting from a Mac OS X install disc, then from the Utilities menu, choose 'Reset Password'
